Tribological Characteristics of High-Chromium Based Multi-Component White Cast Irons

It has been evaluated the relationship between microstructure and three-body abrasive wear behavior of high-chromium (18 27 mass % Cr) based (3 each V, Mo, W, Co) multicomponent white cast iron materials (high-Cr MWCIs). was also compared to MWCI determine service life materials. The results indicate that material is composed mainly martensite matrix different types precipitated carbides. resistances both high-Cr MWCIs are higher than owing hardness (4–18% increment in hardness), although they contain fewer carbide types. volume fraction increases with increase Cr content, but decreases, leading a reduction resistance. This because transition metal significantly consumes C atoms form more eutectic carbides during solidification, which exacerbated by depletion heat treatment coarser secondary means increasing addition does not always lead an or resistance material. In addition, 27Cr after tempering (wear rate: 8.80 × 10−5 g/m) quenching 9.25 fracture toughness M7C3 carbide. contrary case 18Cr-MWCI; 5.29 worse 5.11 as stress-relieving effect.
